Sanako is a Finnish Educational Tech company helping schools and language teachers to improve language teaching efficiency and results.

In all of the talk about remote, online, hybrid, or blended teaching recently, little attention has been paid to one of the most important elements supporting student success in language learning technology - the humble headset or headphone!

For any student studying languages, and increasingly for any student being taught online, they’re likely to spend many hours every day with headphones attached to their ears. So it’s worth ensuring that all students, in school and at home, have the best possible headphones for learning.

This blog post looks at some of the key factors to consider when buying headsets or headphones for your students and explains why the Sanako SLH-07 headset is the preferred choice for thousands of schools every year.

What to look for when buying headphones for your students or for your computer classroom?

Schools are a demanding and unforgiving environment for a wide range of computer accessories, particularly headsets. Unfortunately, headphone products that have been designed for consumer audiences tend to quickly break when faced with the day-to-day rigours of school life.

It’s therefore important to select headphone products specifically developed for learners and for learning environments such as classrooms, computer labs, and language laboratories. This invariably means that factors such as quality, durability, reliability, comfort, and flexibility are vital when choosing which headset to buy for your school or university.

    High-quality headset for schools

No one lives or learns in a soundproof box, so it’s important that any background noise is minimized. A good headset should therefore enable your students to clearly hear every word from teachers, conversation partners, or from online lesson resources. Built-in microphones also ensure that students (and educators) can speak clearly and directly into their headset rather than shouting aimlessly at their laptop or external microphone.

Noise-canceling headphones are therefore particularly useful, especially in classroom environments. And if many students are talking at the same time, a directional, flexible, noise-canceling microphone that eliminates unwanted background chatter is essential.

In response to these requirements, Sanako created the SLH-07 headset - a professional headset designed for language learning. This is a headset with a flexible yet unbreakable microphone. It's been specifically designed for language classes as it delivers the clearest sound quality and blocks out any nearby noise.

Schools need durability from their headphones

All equipment used in schools has to be strong enough to withstand years of regular use (and abuse!) by students. School budgets do not allow for headsets to be repeatedly replaced.

Sanako’s SLH-07 headsets are therefore built out of highly durable materials. Importantly, all of the parts, from the foam padding down to the connector cables, can also be individually replaced which saves a lot of money for schools. Sanako can even provide disposable sanitary covers for the ear cushions to ensure safe, continued usage.

    School headphones must be comfortable

If you’re going to be wearing your headset for a prolonged period of time, then it’s vital that it fits comfortably on your head and over your ears. Look for headsets that have large padded ear cushions to block out background noise and a padded headband to ensure a comfortable fit.

The Sanako SLH-07 headsets have soft replaceable ear cushions and an adjustable headband which allows the students to adjust them to fit their needs.

School headsets need to be suitable for various devices

It’s important to check that your preferred headset fits with your existing school computers and laptops. Students may need different headsets for different learning environments - the connection cable to plug a headset into a language lab, for example, will be different from that for a laptop being used at home. So, make sure that the connector on your school’s headsets fits with/into your students’ devices.

With Sanako's school headset, all of your bases are covered. Sanako’s headsets are available with various types of detachable cables for PCs, notebooks, laptops, and tablets. These include:
