How to conduct speaking activities online effectively

Maximizing opportunities for students to practice their foreign language speaking skills is one of the biggest challenges for language teachers. International research shows that using physical and/or digital language labs can tackle this problem and help make teaching more effective and engaging.

One of the most popular ways for educators to use language labs is through model imitation activities. These activities get students to listen to a sound file (e.g a teacher’s voice, or an audio/video sample) and then record themselves trying to imitate the original sound-track. Such exercises build speaking confidence and improve foreign language pronunciation.

Designed to help language teachers get the most out of these simple yet highly impactful exercises, Sanako’s webinar is fully focused on supporting language educators. We’ll explain why model imitation exercises work, how you can use them in your classroom and when teaching remotely to bring out the best in your students. The webinar will also look at how students’ recordings can be used as part of your formative and summative assessments.

In this webinar, you’ll hear from Aleksis Juhakoski, Sanako’s language teaching technology expert. He will share his insights on how priming, imitation, and role-play can enhance model imitation activities as well as making them more engaging to students.

This webinar session will help language teachers to:

  • Build confidence in using imitation exercises in their teaching
  • Discover how such exercises can be used to engage and motivate students
  • Learn how to deliver speaking based activities when teaching online
  • Learn from classroom best-practice gathered from Sanako’s global customer base
